The official welcoming ceremony was held on June 12 under the chair of Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. After the event, the two top legislators held talks.
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan warmly welcomed Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez and the Cuban high-ranking delegation to Vietnam; stressing that the visit not only featured Cubans' sentiments, solidarity and friendship towards Vietnamese but also represented a new leap forward in the relations between the two law making bodies and the traditional ties and comprehensive cooperation.
The NA Chairwoman briefed the guest about the significant socio-economic achievements. Average economic growth pace hit 5.91% in the 2011-2015 period, 6.2% in 2016 and was projected at 6.7% in 2017.
Vietnam continued to pursue the policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, along with the foreign policy of openness, diversification and multilateralization of international relations, said the Chairwoman.
The Vietnamese National Assembly has unceasingly reformed operation towards openness and transparency as well as strengthen dialogues and explanatory work.
The Vietnamese National Assembly also advocates stepping up judicial foreign diplomacy; cementing and deepening cooperation with foreign peers; and proactively engaging in multi-lateral forums, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said.
She revealed that the Vietnamese National Assembly also set up the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Parliamentary Group and stands ready to send experts and delegations to join exchaging experience workshops with the Cuban side. On the other hand, Vietnam also hopes to learn valuable experience from Cuba, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said.

The Cuban top legislator hoped that experience sharing and delegation exchanges would allow the two countries to understand each other and cope with challenges. Cuba pledged to stand by Vietnam on the international arena, Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez stressed.
The two top legislators were unanimous in cementing and deepening judicial cooperation in the coming time via reciprocal visits at all levels to share information and experience on fields of strength; reviewing and amending documents to perfect the legal framework for bilateral ties; and striving for higher trade turnover in line with the fine political ties.
They agreed to support and promote implementation of joint programs and projects, especially in the areas of agriculture and commodities in Cuba; research and production of biological medicines, health service, infrastructure construction, and energy.
The two sides reached consensus to support each other at multilateral organizations and forums especially the UN in favor of respective benefits, regional peace and stability. The two Friendship Parliamentary Groups of Viet Nam and Cuba would exchange and seek ways to consolidate mutual understanding, friendship, and cooperation in the coming time.
After the talks, Chairman of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez delivered a speech at the plenary meeting of the third session of the 14th National Assembly.
