This is the first time PM Phuc visits the US since he took office in April last year. He will be the first Southeast Asian leader to visit Washington under the new administration.

According to an announcement of the White House, President Donald Trump looks forward to discussing ways to strengthen bilateral ties and deepen regional cooperation with one of America’s important partners in Southeast Asia.

The announcement shows the US expects to cooperate with Viet Nam in both bilateral and multi-lateral aspects.

For Viet Nam, the visit once again demonstrates the country’s efforts in consistent pursuance of the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilteralization and diversification of external relations along with proactive and active international integration.
