The move aims to support ships, vessels, and fishermen of the two countries to transport goods by sea, thus boosting trade between the two countries.

The move also affirmed Vietnam’s wish to step up maritime transport cooperation with Brazil, one of Vietnam's important international maritime gateways to South America.

This was Ferreira’s first visit to Vietnam since he took office in March 2017. The visit came in a bid to boost comprehensive partnership with Vietnam.

Trade between Vietnam and Brazil has increased three-fold since 2010 to $3.1 billion in 2016 and reached $1.9 billion in the first seven months of 2017, up 9 per cent over the same period last year.

The two sides also agreed to increase efforts to raise the bilateral trade volume to $10 billion in the next few years and further promote cooperation in the areas of culture, training, tourism, and sports through concrete programmes and projects.
