Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Trade and Commerce H.E. Mr. Do Thang Hai stated that in recent years, the friendship and economic and trade cooperation between Viet Nam and Myanmar has witnessed remarkable achievements. On the occasion of the state visit to Myanmar by H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in August 2017, the two sides signed the Joint Statement on upgrading bilateral relations to "Comprehensive Cooperative Partnership".
The Viet Nam - Myanmar bilateral trade has grown rapidly and steadily, reaching USD 828.3 million in 2017, increasing 51% over the year 2016. For the first ten months of 2018, bilateral trade turnover reached USD 723.2 million, increasing 7.2% as compared to the same period of 2016. Viet Nam currently ranks the 9th among the largest trading partner of Myanmar and also takes the 7th position among the largest foreign investors in Myanmar. The Leaders of the two countries have also set a bilateral trade target of USD 1 billion in the near future.
In this context, the holding of trade promotion activities such as Vietnam Expo in Myanmar not only helps promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries but also contributes to the development of a broader common market area within ASEAN.
This year, with the participation of 64 Vietnamese companies showcasing their products at 109 booths, the Vietnam Expo in Myanmar is an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to showcase and introduce various and diversified products with high quality, including pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, equipments and components, consumer goods, machineries, electrical equipments, banking services...
Having been organized annually since 2009, the Vietnam Expo in Myanmar has become a connecting bridge that has positively and effectively helped Vietnamese enterprises to promote their goods brands, contributing to strengthen the trade and investment between the two countries.
On December 13, 2018, Myanmar Union Minister for Commerce U Than Myint had a tour on Vietnam Expo 2018 and met with Deputy Minister Do Thang Hai and Vietnam Ambassador Luan Thuy Duong.
