Vietnam, U.S. join hands to prepare U.S. President’s visit to Vietnam

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Vietnam, expecting that it will promote the two nations’ relationship and contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and development in Asia-Pacific and the world.

The Deputy PM made that statement at his reception for out-going U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius on October 31. 

He hailed the Ambassador’s successful term of office in Vietnam, marked by historical visits made by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the U.S. in July 2015, former U.S. President Barack Obama to Vietnam in July 2016, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc to the U.S. in May 2017 and the upcoming visit of President Donald Trump to Vietnam in next November.

Deputy PM Minh highly appraised the Ambassador’s active contributions including the enhancement of Comprehensive Partnership more intensively in the principles of respecting mutual independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and politics as well as economic, trade and investment cooperation. 

He valued the two nations’ efforts in humanitarian works, especially overcoming consequences of the war and people-to-people exchange activities. 

Ambassador Ted Osius stressed the developments in the two nations’ relations in the bilateral, regional and international aspects, including cooperation in the United Nations peace-keeping activities. 

He appraised Vietnam’s role at multi-lateral forums and its well-prepared organization of the Vietnam APEC 2017, confirming to closely coordinate with the Vietnamese side to successfully organize the upcoming visit of the U.S. President.
