The National Gold Medal, the LPDR’s highest honour, was presented to Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Meanwhile the Medal of Freedom, first class, was awarded to Politburo members Pham Minh Chinh, Tran Quoc Vuong, Vo Van Thuong, Truong Thi Mai, Nguyen Van Binh, Pham Binh Minh, Vuong Dinh Hue, To Lam, Hoang Trung Hai and Nguyen Thien Nhan, as well as members of the Party Central Committee Nguyen Van Nen, Luong Cuong and Nguyen Hoa Binh.
The medals were presented by Lao Vice President Phankham Viphava on behalf of the Lao Party and State on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation.
Phankham Viphava is on a visit to Vietnam to attend activities celebrating the Vietnam-Laos Solidarity Year 2017.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Tran Dai Quang affirmed that the honour awarded by the Lao Party and State is of great significance, reflecting the long-standing friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Laos.
It is also a symbol of the Lao Party, State and people’s tradition of humanity and selfless faithfulness that motivates medal recipients to continue working to strengthen the special relationship between the two Parties, countries and peoples.
