Santos, 23, began his professional football career in 2013. He played for four clubs in Brazil including Sao Paulo. He played 77 matches and scored four goals.
Standing tall at 1.95m, Santos is expected to help Viettel shine in the league.
In addition to Santos, Viettel also bought midfielder Kayo Dias to strengthen their defence.
Dias is 28 years old. He began his professional career in 2012 and scored nine goals and had nine assists during 75 matches for four clubs in Brazil.
Viettel also recruited midfielder Que Ngoc Hai of Song Lam Nghe An, who is now captain of the national senior team competing in the ongoing Asian Cup; and midfielder Vu Minh Tuan from FLC Thanh Hoa.
“At present, Viettel haven’t finalised our list of players. We still have time to seek talents for the new season,” said coach Nguyen Hai Bien.
V.League 1 will kick off on February 23 at My Dinh Stadium. The league will include matches between 14 teams ending in October. Clubs are allowed to sign three foreigners and one Vietnamese player born outside Vietnam.
