A large number of journalists from national and local newspapers attended the meeting.

At the meeting, H.E. Mr. Saadi Salama, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Việt Nam, reaffirmed that Palestine considers this US policy announcement as illegal, illegitimate and bearing absolutely no validity, legal or political, and in direct violation of the US letter of assurances to the PLO in 1993, in which the US committed to not recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

This unilateral announcement does not change the legal fact that Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian Territory. President Trump’s decision effectively disqualifies the US from its role as mediator in the conflict and puts its squarely in the position of bias towards and hostility against Palestinian rights and international law.

Palestine expects that in addition to clearly stating their opposition to this illegal measure, countries will take effective and practical measures to confront this dangerous development and its far-reaching implications. Silence is not just unacceptable; silence is complicity.

“These unilateral steps by President Trump will not give any legitimacy to Israel in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the State of Palestine. There can be no Palestinian state without the city of Jerusalem as its capital and there will be no peace in the region and in the world without it”, Ambassador Saadi Salama concluded.
