Born in 1931 in Havana, Mr. Julio Oliveras was an architect, Ph.D in economics. He graduated from the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces’ Military Advanced Course. He joined the Cuban Revolution very early, and was promoted to Commander in 1959. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1969 to 1986.

While Mr. Oliveras was the Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam from 1966 to 1969, he was also the Head of the Cuban military delegation in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and later experienced leadership in various fields. The former diplomat published many books, mainly on history, such as: “Ho Chi Minh the patriot, 60 years of revolutionary struggle”.
On the same day, the Vietnamese Embassy delegation led by Ambassador Nguyen Trung Thanh attended the funeral of Mr. Julio Oliveras – a good friend of the Vietnamese people and an erudite scholar about Vietnam.
